Hands up if you have that little voice who tells you that you can't do something or constantly compares yourself to others?............. Me too!
Since starting my business my inner critic has been screaming at me for all different reasons and I have let her win some days. I've let her believe that I am not good enough and that I have to keep perfecting before putting myself out there. This self-chat is really normal. I have been on a huge discovery about myself over the last year whilst I have been building up to starting my business.
I have realised that a lot of what I do and how I behave is from my childhood. Being an only child meant I did not have a sibling to bounce off. I have a tendency to become withdrawn if I am stressed and unable to show my weaknesses. We all have something like this installed within us. My journey is becoming really interesting and that is why I wanted to share this with you today.
Doing something new or making a changecan allow our inner critics to creep in. I went to a networking event and discovered the 7 inner critics we all have.
Have a look at them and see who is your self-chat inner critic today.
1.The Perfectionist 2. The People Pleaser 3. The Procrastinator 4. The Conformist 5. The-Busy-Bee 6. The Imposter 7. The Comparer
So this is my journey, I have owned my own salon and spent most of my time trying to be the busiest person in the salon. What I did not realise is if this is what I wanted to do, I should have continued to work in a salon for someone else and save myself a lot of sleepless nights.
Then I went through the next part of the guilt. If I was not doing clients I felt like I was not earning the salon any money.
The key words here are "I was not earning the salon any money".
I would be listening to other conversations to make sure the team were recommending the right products. Listening to the telephone conversations to make sure they were being booked in right. Greeting clients, making sure they had coffee and the list goes on. It was exhausting! My husband used to dread Saturdays as I would come home in a terrible mood, mainly because I was so drained by giving everything I had to the salon.
Well, the good news is I have worked out that you don't need to go through what I did. I am able to allow you to take control of your salon and transform it into a brand. A brand that has longevity, a brand that will allow you to live the lifestyle you desire.
